Why Your Dog Won’t Eat: Causes & Solutions

Most dogs love to eat, which is why a meal that has been left untouched immediately raises concerns.
Whether you’ve had pet dogs for years or you’ve just adopted your first puppy, it can be very distressing when your dog won’t eat. There are a variety of reasons for loss of appetite in dogs. It’s important to determine the cause in order to design the best treatment plan.

When a dog won’t eat, it is referred to as anorexia. This is different from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder found in humans. Instead, anorexia describes a complete loss of appetite in dogs.

What can be the causes?

  • Digestive problems like diarrhoea and vomiting.
  • Diseases of the liver – for example – chronic hepatitis.
  • Bacterial or viral infections.
  • Respiratory diseases – some dogs may lose their appetites when they suffer from an upper respiratory disease (for example, asthma and kennel cough).
  • Constipation.
  • Dislike of a new food or bored with food.
  • Stress linked to new owners and new environment – re-homed dogs or getting a stray from the shelter.

What to do when your dog won’t eat

What you can do to help when your dog won’t eat will depend on what you and your veterinarian determine to be the cause of the problem.

If your dog’s loss of appetite is caused by illness, the vet may recommend a prescription diet to meet your pet’s nutritional needs while the underlying disease is being addressed. Sometimes these diets are not particularly tasty, especially if your dog is used to regular treats or people food.

Some tips if your dog has behavioural eating problems

Eating disorders in dogs may be of different types including overeating or refusal to eat. The causes of canine eating disorders may be difficult to detect, but not impossible.

Your dog needs a lot of love and attention and these tricks will help you to emphasize with your animal friend.

Daily Multivitamin Supplements

Much like in humans, vitamins help a dog’s body to function properly, regulating everything from digestion to muscle growth. They’re crucial to maintaining your dog’s health, and a deficiency of a particular vitamin can cause health problems, which can sometimes have serious and long-lasting effects.

Do you really need to give your dog vitamins? And if so, which kinds are best? This is an issue that many of us have.

In the period when my dog didn’t eat, I have done some research and thanks to a veterinarian that is a friend of mine I discovered Pet Bounce multivitamin.

Pet Bounce Vitamin features a lot of essential multi-nutrients and vitamins that have potency in making the pets feel well, and healthy the vitamins are a perfect choice for all pet owners.

This product has scientifically proven natural ingredients that have proven to cater for the aching joints of your pets especially the aging pets. The formula is safe for administering to your pets as the ingredients are backed by science and contains no fillers or artificial chemicals. And I say this from my experience because Pet Bounce Vitamin made wonders for my dog who barely could move. Now, my furry friend eats regularly, is happy and has a lot of energy. He wants to play all the time.

If your dog doesn’t want to eat, Pet Bounce Vitamin will help you to solve this problem. I got Pet Bounce Vitamin from here and I received them in 2 days. A lot of dogs have eating disorders, and this is the reason I considered is good for you to know about Pet Bounce Vitamin. These helped my dog and for me are the best.

I have tried many other products in the past but Pet Bounce Vitamin was the only product that seemed to work for my dog.

Get Pet Bounce Vitamin for your dog if you want to ensure that your dog is as happy and healthy for as long as possible.

Puppies need to be fed at regular intervals

At each meal, place the correct amount of food into the bowl. The puppy should complete his meal within 10 minutes. If he walks away with food left in the bowl, pick up the bowl. This will accustom him to eating his food in an appropriate time frame.

Pick the best dog food

Help your dog stay healthy. With high-quality dry dog food, you can give him the nutrients he needs. It’s not easy finding the best dog food for puppies or even grown dogs, but fortunately, now we can find many brands of dog food very healthy.

Good nutrition is important for dogs. It keeps them healthy and happy. But there’s no set formula for how often you feed your dog or what you put in his bowl. That’s because each pooch is different. Also, be sure to pick the food that’s right for your dog’s stage of life — puppy, pregnant or nursing, or adult.

For examples, my dogs prefer Beggin’ Strips Bacon. This is a brand of pet food and pet snack manufactured by Nestlé Purina PetCare. I like that the bag is big and I don’t need to buy treats every week.

Every time I come back from shopping my dogs are looking into my bags for treats. They are crazy about them!

More than that, anyone who says “love don’t cost a thing” probably doesn’t own a pet. One of the biggest factors in how we choose a good dog food is the cost. And who has a pet knows that dog food is expensive.

But fortunately, there are promotions that save us spending too much money. I am always looking for such opportunities and today I found that Beggin’ Strips is giving away free pet food for a year. Great, isn’t?

I immediately applied and I told all of my friends about this opportunity. If you are interested in receiving free pet food, I recommend you to check this limited offer. This offer is valid only today.

Dogs need plenty of exercises

Physical activity keeps them healthy, happy, and fit. Make sure you walk, run, hike, or play fetch with your dog every day. The exercises are not only good for your pups, but for you too!

Our dogs need to be cared properly. They eat less when they’re in pain, stressed or anxious, when it’s hot, when they’re not getting much exercise and so on. Puppies eat more than adult dogs. Senior dogs tend to eat less than younger adults. Eating less, or more, from time to time doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem.

But if your dog isn’t eating on a regular basis, or he’s lost his interest in food, then you need to figure out what’s going on.

I hope that these tips are useful for you and if you have any suggestions I am waiting for your feedback. Also, don’t forget to apply for this $1000 gift card for free pet food.

Be very cautious on what type and how much treats you give your dog. You don’t want to end up with an overweight dog that developes illnesses because of it. Instead try raw veggies and fruit. Apples, carrots, banana, watermelon, cranberry, potatoes, peas are just a few of good healthy snacks instead of packaged treats.

Some dogs self regulate based on their weight. Or, they prefer their kibble served plain and dry, wet food in a separate bowl. Different dogs have different palates.
